DO NOT send glass anaerobic specimen collectoin swabs through the pneumatic tube system!

Specimens submitted for anaerobic testing must be checked for sufficient quality to provide an interpretable result. Bone, tissue, fluid, abscess aspirate, anaerobic swabs, and surgical specimens are all acceptable sample types. If a swab specimen is submitted, it must be in an anaerobic collection device and the indicator at the bottom must be white to indicate an anaerobic environment is present. If a bone, tissue, fluid, or aspirate specimen is submitted, the exposure to air must be limited and set-up of the culture should happen within 30 minutes of collection time.
