Clinical Significance
Crossmatching is performed before a blood transfusion to determine whether the donor blood is compatible or incompatible with the recipient. The most important compatability testing is the ABO and Rh system followed by the presence of clinically significant antibodies against a sample of donor blood. This is usually the final step of pretransfusion compatibility testing. This is done to detect clinically significant antibodies, errors in ABO grouping, and clerical errors in patient identification.
Methodology
- MTS gel cards and/or tube hemagglutination method
- Electronic Crossmatch
Specimen Minimum Volume
