Test Code TFFP Transfuse Fresh Frozen Plasma
Purpose
Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP) is 220-360 mL of single donor plasma removed from a unit of whole blood and rapidly frozen. It contains plasma proteins and all coagulation factors and is used to replace coagulation factors in coagulation disorders and factor depletion due to hemorrhage and DIC.

Group specific plasma is given to recipients as the first choice. Recipients will recieve 2nd choice in the event that first choice is unavailable.
Unit Preparation
FFP is stored in a temperture monitored freezer between -18 and -30°C. Units of FFP are thawed in a 30 - 37°C water bath over a period of 14 - 18 minutes, depending on the size of the unit.
Unit Storage
Frozen: Stored -18 to -30°C. Units expire 12 months from date initially frozen.
Thawed: Stored 1 to 6°C. Units expire 5 days after thawing.
