Clinical Significance
Patients of blood groups A, B, AB that do not have a current history at Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital prior to transfusion of blood will be confirmed. A confirmation blood type is ordered by the laboratory and used as a safety measure to verify the blood type. Patients that do not have a confirmation drawn will be crossmatched with group O until a sample is acquired.
