Test Code CHGCT Chlamydia, Gonorrhoeae, and Trichomonas PCR

Infectious

Additional Codes

EPIC LAB4603

Purpose

This assay may be used for detection of Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC), and/or Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) in urine samples, clinician-collected endocervical swab specimens, and patient-collected vaginal swab specimens (in a clinical setting). The assay is indicated for use to aid in the diagnosis of chlamydial urogenital disease, gonococcal urogenital disease and/or trichomoniasis in asymptomatic and symptomatic individuals.

Methodology

The BD MAX CT/GC/TV assay, as performed using the BD MAX system, incorporates automated DNA extraction and real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the direct, qualitative detection of DNA from Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC), and/or Trichomonas vaginalis (TV).

Specimen Collection

Urine

  1. Uncap the Sample Buffer Tube (SBT). Use the graduated transfer pipette to mix the urine specimen gently in the collection cup and transfer approximately 2 mL of the urine into the SBT.
  2. Tighten the cap securely on the SBT.
  3. Invert the SBT 3-4 times to ensure specimen and reagent are well mixed.
  4. Label the SBT with patient identification, source, and date/time collected. Do not obscure the bar codes on the tube!
  5. Refrigerate if testing will be within 5 days.

Endocervical or Vaginal Swab

  1. Uncap the Sample Buffer Tube (SBT) and fully insert the swab into the tube so that the tip is at the botom.
  2. Carefully break the swab shaft at the score mark. Use caution to avoid splashing or contamination of the tube contents.
  3. Tighten the cap securely on the SBT.
  4. Label the SBT with patient identification, source, and date/time collected. Do not obscure bar codes on the tube.
  5. Refrigerate if testing will be within 5 days.

Rejection Criteria

  • Samples outside of stability limits.
